Brewers Droop 8 - 2005

It's amazing how quickly August comes around each year when so much planning needs to be done for this annual event.  Again the fine sunny weather had been arranged and so Friday saw approx 700 scooterists make an early dash to Britain's Brewing Capital.  Friday night saw two great acts.  The Pinch kicked things off followed by an excellent performance by Rankin' Rogers The Beat which now includes his own son in the line up.  It just emphasises how long ago it was that the original line up of Dave Wakelin at al were top of the charts.  Rankin Roger did a great job performing/covering all the hits that the band had originally produced 25 years before.

The following morning saw new arrivals on site from a very early hour.  Already camping space was at a premium but still more scooters arrived laden with tents and BBQs.  Such were the numbers that a dozen or so from Stateside SC had to wait for the afternoon activities to finish in order to find a camping spot.

During the afternoon all the usual attractions had been laid on. including 5-a-sde football, It's a knockout, Kids face painting and an increasingly large custom show.   Pitchy and Tony-1-Shirt again laid on afternoon musical entertainment either side of short set from Spillage.  As always the BBSC ladies crew did a sterling job all weekend selling raffle tickets.  Top prize was again a restored GP200, this time in white, with a second prize of an unrestored model. 3500 was shared out among 4 charities with the lions share going to Birmingham Hospital Neo-natal unit.

By late afternoon the campsite was bursting at the seams, meaning that both rooms would be full to capacity for the evening events.  The live music came in the form of 3 bands.  First up were top Ska band 2-Tonic.  They were followed by The Targets, and finally DC Fontana kept the dance floor full and ensured that the VfM stewards earned their dues.

Sunday morning saw the site empty as quickly as usual despite the larger numbers having been present.  All that was left was to clean up and reflect on whether we could ever cope with a further increase in numbers next year.
