Brewers Droop 10 - 1st-3rd August 2008

.

Following a glorious two weeks of sunshine the weather forecasters predicted rain for the weekend of Brewers Droop 10.  Last year had seen an enforced break due to venue complications but the Droop was back and anticipation was high.  Thursday evening saw a hive of activity from club members setting out the venue and Friday morning saw an early arrival of familiar faces and good friends as well as welcomed guests arriving from as far a field as Dublin.

By early evening the Belvedere camp site showed the usual signs of filling up and still the weather held good.

Due to Council restrictions, entertainment in the two halls was limited to DJ's only, but tracks from Dean (CSWS), Pitchie, Gaz of Ripley Harriers, Jay Watson and Chris Oulds (among others) kept the masses happy.  As is the case at the Droop, the Main Room provided a happy blend of sounds including Ska, Indie, Punk and Northern whilst the smaller Belvedere Room focussed predominantly on Northern for the Soulies.  The good weather outside meant that only a smallish crowd saw the early part of their set but by later on the dance floors were full.

As the night wound down the predicted rain arrived in abundance and everyone was forced to take cover in their tents, for once curtailing the usual revelry and non stop partying.

Come Saturday morning the clouds had once again cleared and the numbers camping began to swell. by early afternoon approx 1300 were on site.  Again Live music was restricted but a large contingent of trade stalls, a custom show and children's entertainer kept the crowds happy.

Later the usual five-a-side football competition was held with this years winners being The Coalville Toniks.  The junior competition winners were the 5 Muskateers from Birmingham.

The evening entertainment was again provided by DJs Dean, Marshmellow Factory, Pitchie, Gibbo and Chalky.  The Brewers traditionally raise lots of money for charity.   This years chosen charity is the Air Ambulance Fund and once again we raffled off a Lambretta GP 200 for the cause.  Congratulations go to Dave from Derby (Mercia SC) who won the top prize.

Thanks to everyone that attended this rally and hope to see you all in the near future.
